The Civic Design Library is a crowdsourced data set of civic design resources created by global practitioners working at the intersection of design and the public sector.

It aims to showcase the breadth and depth of civic design and offer data and visual formats for peer-to-peer learning and inspiration.

Data & Licensing

We've invested in making great data that's open to use under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). Want to make your own project? Go for it! You are free to: Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially.

Prototype

This project is an iterative prototype.

Current: April 2022

The data is housed in Airtable and Softr provides the front end interface. Resources were added in this version. We're continuing testing for accessibility and usability and welcome any feedback you may have.

Disclosure: We use Bookshop.org affiliate links for many books. When you click through and make a purchase, it helps offset the infrastructure costs for the Civic Design Library.

Launch: December 2021

The CDL was first built using Airtable and Bootstrap, and hosted via Github. It launched with only case studies.

Inspiration

The CDL is inspired by resources such as the Social Change Directory, Civic Tech Companies and Organizations, and the Civic Tech Guide.
